Majestic Manilva: 5 beaches in 5 days

Manilva’s spectacular 7.8 km coastline is a paradise for the avid beach-bather and also the outdoors explorer. There are eight beaches in the area, but we have selected 5 beauties, perfect for exploring if you are in Manilva for a weeks getaway.

Punta Chullera

This small rocky cape sits at the mouth of the arroyo river. The shore has shallow clearwaters which are home to an abundance of sea life, including octopus and sea urchins. Beach combers can relish paddling between the rocks and collecting shells, while sunbathers can enjoy the fantastic views across to Gibraltar and Africa.

Playa de los Toros

Playa de los Toros is an unspoilt quiet cove, idyllic in every way. The 100m-wide beach is made from a fine shell shingle and is bordered by rocky outcrops either side, protecting sunbathers from sea breezes and providing shade from the sun when the heat gets too intense.

Playa del Gobernador (Las Arenas - The Sands)

This tremendous stretch of beach truly lives up to its local name, ‘Las Arenas’ or ‘The Sands’. At about 850 metres in length and 30 metres in width, Playa del Gobernador is a certified example of why the Costa del Sol is so popular with tourists.

Playa de Tubalitas

Playa de Tubalitas, or El Negro as it is locally known, is a delight for its traditional Spanish seascape. The 650m run, from the Cala la Sardina to the Arroyo Negro, is well known for the passage of tuna fish and as a result, fisherman and their networks of ‘tunny nets’ are often visible just offshore. The beach is also bordered by Manilva’s smooth rolling hills, adding to its tranquillity.

El Negro

This beach, the longest in Manilva, runs from the Aroyo Negro up to the Arroyo del Indiano, just to the west of Castillo. The beach is named locally as ‘Los Torros’ or ‘The Bulls’, after the bulls which exited the adjacent Canada Real en route to Estepona from Los Barrios. Over half of the beach is free from any buildings whatsoever meaning that the white open sands provide paradise for sunbathers and a genuine escape from the rest of the over-developed Costa del Sol.

At all of the beaches in Manilva there are plenty of water sports to enjoy. If you plan to take part remember to check that your travel insurance extends to these activities. Have a look at Go Travel Insurance for some competitive quotes on travel insurance.
